Lab members attend Mineral-X Symposium

Vanessa and Antonio had the opportunity to attend the Mineral-X symposium, a two-day deep dive into the world of mining for critical minerals. The entire symposium was framed against the understanding that in order for humanity to make the switch to full electric, and mitigate climate change, the discovery, extraction, and production of key minerals such as copper, nickel, lithium, and cobalt must increase dramatically. A key component of the weekend that interfaced most relevantly with our research was a discussion surrounding the ethics of mining, informal mines, and how mining companies should engage and uplift the communities they work in.
